WILD SOUND: out of the studio and onto the streets
'A microphone in the hand; an idea in the head; a new sound for the city' - DJ Murphy I'm making my first sound piece. I wanted to catch some of the flavour and rhythm of the streets. Every home here spills into the street - small stalls selling fruit, vegetables, soaps, torches, trinkets and flip flops; there's football on every corner. The everyday sounds of the street sound new through the headphones. I'll share the piece as soon as it's ready. The government told us they were going to demolish all these streets. With our community radio station we'll be able to speak out and speak up for ourselves. Listen to this space.
OUR VOICE: over the water and across the city
Here are some of the Chicoco Radio trainee team on the jetty in front of the training studio we built. With your support we are going to build a full broadcast facility floating on the water behind us. We'll be on the water and on air, speaking up for human rights. Our radio station won't be the only thing floating in the water: untreated sewage from thousands of homes spills directly into the creek. Living in slums means we live without infrastructure. These are just some of the challenges we face everyday. WIth our radio station we'll be able to campaign for change and talk about how we can realise the right to live in dignity in a healthy environment. Tune in, stay with us.
