Situation
Every year up to 3,000 women contract obstetric fistula, a condition caused by prolonged obstructed labour. The women suffering from this condition cannot work, and are forced to the fringes of their commununities. Not surprisingly, women suffering with fistula are unable to have children, which in combination with incontinence can lead to ostracism from the family and social network. These women are some of the poorest individuals in any community in which Vodafone operates.Goal
The goal is to make a difference to the lives of 31,000 women in Tanzania by 2016. This is possible because of the collaboration of Vodafone's mobile technology and the CCBRT Hospital in Dar es Salaam.Main activities
During 2010 CCBRT and Vodacom Tanzania began working together to use mobile technology to remove the barrier of travel costs, enabling women to get the treatment needed. Using the M-Pesa money transfer system which is available in Tanzania, the hospital appointed a series of ambassadors around the country who, when they diagnose a woman with this condition, can reccomend them to the hospital for surgery. Within the hour, a date for the surgery is sent to the ambassador via SMS. Money to cover the costs of travel is also sent to the ambassador via M-Pesa.

About: Woensdag 13 juni 2012 is het zover! Vodafone Nederland organiseert dan de Moyo Connect Challenge. Een hardloop- en fietswedstrijd om de Vodafone kantoren met elkaar in verbinding te brengen. De wedstrijd start om 06.00 uur in Amsterdam, Veenendaal en Maastricht en eindigt in Son. Alle Vodafone en BelCompany medewerkers zijn van harte welkom om mee te doen!
Iedere deelnemer aan de Moyo Connect Challenge moet minimaal 100 euro sponsorgeld opbrengen. Het totaalbedrag zal aan Moyo worden geschonken.
