Vodafone Retail on wheels
About Vodafone retail on wheels A team of 8 people from Vodafone Retail Netherlands will be relay cycling 100km from Veenendaal to Eindhoven (Son) on 13 June 2012 to raise money for the Vodafone Group Moyo initiative to help transform the lives of 31,000 women in Tanzania who suffer from the condition of obstetric fistula. This condition arises as a result of a lack of access to basic medical care during child birth. We can help change the lives of these women by simply providing the small amount of money they need to cover the cost of their transport to hospital, through our M-Pesa offering. This will enable them to receive the treatment and surgery they require to transform their lives and bring them back into society. The team members are: Cycling: Jacco Roks, Wouter Klok,Wim Hendriks, Rene van de Hurk, Gerard van Amerongen en Bram Posch. Crew: Dagmar Vermolen en Mabelle Rosmolen.

Dit jaar loop ik 21 km voor het Cancer Center Amsterdam (CCA) waarvoor ik jullie sponsorbijdrage vraag. Het Cancer Center Amsterdam aan het VU Medisch Centrum waar ik werk, is dit jaar het goede doel van de Amsterdam Marathon. In het Cancer Center Amsterdam maken wij ons al jaren sterk voor betere diagnostiek en behandelmethoden om kanker in te tomen. Soms grijpt een arts mij aan op een meeting, als een patient in zijn praktijk ‘uit zijn handen glijdt’. Hij heeft dan met de patient alle behandelopties doorlopen, er zijn geen oplossingen meer: “Bauke, we moeten iets voor deze patienten kunnen doen” “kunnen we de tumor niet eerder herkennen of harder de kop in drukken”. Soms verlies ik zelf een vriend, zoals ook dit jaar, aan een type kanker waar ik zelf nota bene aan werk. Gelukkig zie ik ook vooruitgang, door het onderzoek begrijpen we de ziekte steeds beter. Zoals ook andere jaren loop ik dit jaar weer mee met de Amsterdam Marathon. Alvast bedankt voor jullie bijdrage om samen kanker steeds meer tot een behandelbare of chronische ziekte te maken.

Zoals jullie misschien weten, zet ik me regelmatig in voor Dance4Life. Zo ook dit jaar bij de Vodafone Kerstdonatie. Daarom wil ik jullie vragen om jullie PIF-wallet leeg te maken bij het project van Dance4Life in Mexico, waardoor weer een hele hoop schoolkinderen voorlichting zullen krijgen. Gewoon een paar getallen: Elke 12 seconden wordt iemand besmet met HIV. Meer dan de helft van deze nieuwe patiënten is jonger dan 25 jaar... Elke 15 seconden sterft er iemand aan de gevolgen van AIDS. Tel eens uit hoe lang je hebt gedaan over het lezen van deze tekst. Dance4Life wil wereldwijd onder jongeren bewustzijn creëren voor deze problematiek en hun leren hoe eenvoudig preventie kan zijn. Daarvoor is natuurlijk geld nodig. Help ons om hun te helpen. Mijn doel is niet alleen de eindstreep halen, maar daarmee ook bijdragen aan onderzoek naar kanker binnen VUmc Cancer Center Amsterdam. Woensdag 13 juni 2012 is het zover! Vodafone Nederland organiseert dan de Moyo Connect Challenge. Een hardloop- en fietswedstrijd om de Vodafone kantoren met elkaar in verbinding te brengen. De wedstrijd start om 06.00 uur in Amsterdam, Veenendaal en Maastricht en eindigt in Son. Alle Vodafone en BelCompany medewerkers zijn van harte welkom om mee te doen! Start Dancing - Stop AIDS!
After fundraising for Dance4Life in Kenya, I decided to become an ambassador for this year's project in Mexico. Just a few numbers... Every 12 seconds a new person gets infected with HIV occurs, of which half of them are people under 25. Every 15 seconds a person dies of an AIDS-related cause. Dance4Life wants to create awareness for this around the globe and teach young people how easy prevention can be. Their school programs need money of course. Help us and them! Start dancing - Stop AIDS! Thanks!
