Sharing helps!
Every community in the district where Vajra Nepal is active has a mother group. All mothers of the village are part of it. In total there are about 72. One of these mothers is appointed as a Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV).

She organises the mother group meetings and gives basic information about hygiene, health, pregnancy, birth control, first aid and so on. All these FCHV are trained by Vajra. They become more aware of the problem of prolaps and of a possible solution. They motivate other women to talk about their problem and ask for proper care. The volunteers also motivate the young mothers to take better care of themselves during pregnancy to prevent problems in the future: proper food, birth control and professional care during pregnancy and delivery. You see some of these activities in the pictures above.

The mother groups are becoming more and more important for the emancipation of women. Some of them have setup their own micro-credit program and are now doing small business, like goat rearing, agriculture and sewing, without interference of their husbands.

With your support of this project on Pifworld we can develop the situation further. So thank you and play it forward!

Sabina and Nirasa
These two girls are from two very poor families living in the Himalya. Their schoolteacher has selected them to go to the Vajra Academy, so they will get the chance to be educated . Our Pifworld project supports them for the coming 4 years.

Vajra school
The Vajra Academy is situated about 15 km south of Kathmandu in a quiet and fresh surrounding. Central Kathmandu is very polluted As you see we have a solar system on the roof. All,the food is cooked by steam from this system. We have also a bio gaz insatllation, fed by our school cows and also by the children ...

Visit to Nepal
Recently I have visited the Vajra Academy again. I was impressed by the school, the surrounding, the children and the teachers. There are about 200 children now. Some are sponsored, others come from the villages around.

The method of education is quite different from the usually rather strict education method that is normal in Nepal. In the Vajra Academy there is a lot of attention for the well being of the children. A lot of playing, making music and drawing. Also, the attention for the environment is essential, because it is a green school. Nearly all the cooking is done by steam from suncollectors and gaz from a biogaz installation. For some pictures that I made, see above.

Sending two girls to school!
Dear Players,

We would like to give you an update on the developments in Lalitpur, Nepal.

Good news: recently Sabina Khadka and Nirasa Sinchiuri were able to enter the academy of this project!

This has consequences for the characteristics of the beneficiaries in the Send a child to school project on Pifworld. Let us give you some background info about the children attending the academy:

There are two different type of students in the academy: internal and external students. This project on Pifworld initially was meant for external students: pupils that live close to the academy and can live at home and travel to school every day.

However, Sabina Khadka and Nirasa Sinchiuri live in a remote area near the Tibetan border, about 150 km north of Kathamandu. This is off course too far to travel back and forth every day. Therefore they both moved to Lalitpur as of June this year to live close to the academy.

Since there are no external students on the waiting list at the moment, we decided to send Sabina Khadka and Nirasa Sinchiuri to school become internal students.

As you might have noticed the budget for this project has been changed. This is because we would like to spend the donations on funding the coming four academy years for Sabina Khadka and Nirasa Sinchiuri.

Thank you for playing it forward for Sabina Khadka and Nirasa Sinchiuri so they can finish their academy!

Nepali women
Mothers in Nepal are vulnerable, socially as well as physically. They work hard and they are the ones that take care of the children. Mostly they dont get proper care during pregnancy and delivery. If women get many children, have a difficult delivery and do not get proper food during pregnanc: they have a big chance to suffer from uterine prolaps afterwards.

Uterine prolaps is the condition in which the muscles and tissues of the uterus are damaged. Women in this situation encounter difficulties: because there is a taboo on these kind of affections, women feel very ashamed and do not want to talk about it, often not even with their husband. Socially they can easily get isolated. There is a rather simple and very effective operation to help these women!

With your support we can cure these moms physically and improve their self image mentally.

Mothergroup gathering under a tree.
The meeting place of this mothergroup is under the old tree in the center of the village. The women gather there at leats once a month and discuss different health topics.

The last five years, Vajra Nepal and Vajra Holland have supported this old structure of meetings. They have educated one mother as a volunteer, so she can educate the other women. Topics are mostly sanitation and hygiene, but also other topics like child care. Safe delevery is also an imoprtant issue of dicussion during these sessions.

What a Mothergroup entails:
This is a group of women (a so called Mothergroup) from a small village near the Tibetan border. They gather together regulary to discuss health problems together.

During these meetings the women exhange ideas, fears and thoughts. Moreover, the women are motivated to ask for help for problems like uterine prolaps (for which they will get surgery with this project on Pifworld.

These kind of issues are not very easy for women to talk about. Because of social stigmas and culture they are not used to discussed such things. Often they are ashamed about it. These groups try to create an atmosphere so that this and similar subjects can be discussed.

About Vajra Academy:
The Vajra academy is a child and environmentally friendly school.
It is partly a boarding school , some children come from very far and cannot go home evrey day. Some children live nearby and can walk. If they live too fat to walk, the school collects them in the morning and bring them home in the evening.

Women power!
Hi Players,

We, the Vajra foundation, are content that our project "Improve a mom's life" is on Pifworld; because this project is incredibly important. Let us tell you a bit more about the situation:

This project on Pifworld will get several women the opportunity to get a surgery to cure their uterine prolapse.

The inconvenience of this wound is a severe handicap for women. The most common cause is due to difficult deleveries or too may children. WIth a surgery their lives can be improved and it can make all the diefference. Only, women are very ashamed and do not talk about it easily. It is not the most common project when you think about charity as well. But that defenitely does not mean it is less urgent or important!

The Vajra organisation is already doing health education program in this area for more then 5 yeras. Only recently women start talking about it more freely. Female volunteers who live in the villages, asked the organisation for support for their fellow mothers. So we are making progress already.

Thanks for supporting us to improve it further!
