Update from Sunyani
It has been just a little bit more than a month now that I have been here and that I have witnessed the construction of the medical post. In the beginning of December, the construction workers were still working on the upper part of the walls. One morning when I was not around, they had laid the whole roof. In the last two weeks they have been busy with egalizing the floors and finishing the terrazzo. This is the first of the five buildings of which Hanukkah Children's Home consists that does not have steps but an entrance suitable for wheelchairs instead. In the future, for example one of the children who is paralised from the waist might come to use a chair. He will need to go into the medical post to wash himself in the special hot water bath, to use the computer in the special computer room that is adjacent or find a book in the library that will also be realized in the medical post building.
Just today, the construction workers finished painting the outside in white and green colors, like the rest of the buildings of Hanukkah. We expect that by Friday, the construction will be completed and we can start furnishing. We are looking forward very much to use all those new facilities and we want to thank anyone who has supported it. We will keep you updated!

Thank you,

Thank You! Meda ase! Bedankt!
Dear Players,

You have probably already seen the good news on Pifworld: we reached our budget of Be a Dream! Of course we wanted to give you a very warm, personal thank you for all your efforts here on Pifworld! Thanks to you we can now start building a medical post near Hanukkah Childrens Home: very good news for our kids at the Home and the local community in Sunyani.

It took some time to get it started, but a few weeks in the spotlight, your help and a great charity concert made it happen really fast. Thank you!

Personal thanks to
Dorien and Romy, two Ambassadors who will see the establishment of the medical post with their own eyes. Further kudos to Ilone, Taco (congrats with your graduation!), Marieke, Nina, Joske, Julia, Maaike, Alice, Sander, Xander, Jasper, Esli, Maarten, Stephanie, Joris, Jozee, Antoinette, Liek, Alwin, Tynke, Corine, Margot, Marion, Marja, Louis, Marga, Lotte, Willem, Jan, Kim Ellen, Marije, Rianne, Bas, Adri, Judith and Florine. Great to see so much support!

Thanks also to Vera and Inge, two sisters and ex-volunteers of the Hanukkah Childrens Home, who organised the charity concert. Well done! Many thanks to the Coverband REFLEXX that greatly performed during the night. Thanks to all visitors and volunteers who really made the evening a huge success. Two thumbs up for everyone that enthused their friends and family on Pifworld. Further thanks to all Pifworld employees for their help. Thank you Marieke for donating part of your bookrevenues to Be a Dream, thanks to the grandma and grandpa of a former Hanukkah volunteer spending their anniversary gift on Be a Dream!!! Its amazing.

Thank you all, meda ase, dankjulliewel!

Warm regards, on behalf of Anita, Belinda, Esther, Ellen, Jennifer, Kwasi, Yaw and all other Hanukkah children

Jeroen Boekel is running the New York Marathon for us!
Since we currently are the spotlight project on Pifworld, we would like to share the following:

On November the first, our board member Jeroen Boekel is running the marathon of New York for our cause: The Hanukkah Children's Home.

After Jeroen visited Hanukkah's orphanage together with his wife Brigitte last April, he was determined to get into action for the orphans there. That is why he decided to run 42 kilometers and show his support. And what better place than New York city?

We probably don't have to tell you how much we encourage this wonderful gesture. Surely, we will keep you informed on how this adventure continues: Run Jeroen, run!

Preparations for medical post.
Dear Players,

From this week on you can see us as a spotlight project here on Pifworld.

See here what Moses Asagbo tells you about the preparations needed to build a medical post for Hanukkah's orphanage.

We're more than halfway with our budget, so help us become the second successful spotlight project to be realised.

Regards,

Moses & Mariette

Why do we need your help?
Taking care of 30 children in an orphanage means that no day is the same. Especially if one of the kids is ill, we are very concerned but also very busy. The care for ill children in Ghana is not as solid as in the Netherlands.

When a kid is in hospital, someone has to be present 24/7 to make sure the little one eats and drinks. However, he also needs to keep an eye on the medicines: Are they administered on time and in the correct doses? In Hanukkah Children’s Home live a lot of children who are particularly vulnerable due to a handicap.

This is the reason why we have to go to the hospital very frequently. For example we take care of a boy with a multiple handicap, a girl with brain damage as a result of malaria and a brother and sister with a physical limitation. Besides, we tend some little babys that are regularly plagued with malaria.

For this reason, it would be just great if we could offer a part of the healthcare at the site of the orphanage itself. For the kids it is more appealing to be in their own environment and for us it is easier. We hope this medical post will be a place where every child can recover calmly.

As I have said before, I would be so happy to provide these people with medicines and basic healthcare and if necessary take them to the hospital.

I hope you can now imagine what we mean with ā€˜our dream’!

Greetings,

Mariƫtte

Projectmanager Pifworld for Mariette's Childcare
Hello, my name is Joske van Bentum, volunteer in Hanukkah Children's Home and friend of Mariette. Marjo van Dijck had appointed me as projectmanager Pifworld for Mariette's Childcare Foundation. That means that from now on I will try to make as many people as possible as enthusiastic as I am for this opportunity to raise money for the medical post. I am convinced that if we all work together this goal can be achieved! If you have any questions about this project you can always contact me about it.

Muscles for Medical post
On friday the 13th at 13.13 pm, Marjo (Mariette's mom) hit the 13th pole for the Uranus B.V. complex.

With the funds received in return for helping Uranus building their complex by using her muscles, Marjo was able to send a container-full of requirements to Ghana for the Medical Post.

Check out the pictures to see how she did the job!
