Description
Give these two Nepali kids access to education! The children who attend Vajra Academy are selected from families that cannot afford good education for their children. Each child is sponsored for a period of minimum 5 years. Teachers of the Vajra Academy school are trained in high quality and child friendly education. The school is also open to children whose parents can pay the regular fees. This makes the school sustainable in the future. The school is the first eco-friendly school in Nepal with a solar kitchen for cooking and a biogas installation. At this moment the school has 133 students.

Sabina Khadka (age 5) and Nirasa Sinchiuri (age 6) are intelligent girls from two poor and lower cast families. Their families are living in remote areas near the Tibetan border, about 150 km north of Kathmandu. Their schoolteachers asked Vajra to support these girls. The girls are already admitted to the Vajra Academy as of June 2009. The costs of the first year are covered till June 2010. To give them proper education they need support for another 4 years.
Goal
To give these 2 children, Sabina and Nirasa, the opportunity to be educated during at Vajra Academy.
Main activities
Our main activity is of course to look for sponsors and or ambassadors. This project seems a challenge especially for schools. Teachers and school classes can combine social activities with more educational goals, like learning English and facing the problems of less privileged children.
External risks
Political instability is still a risk factor, but the political situation is improving slowly. Our Nepali partners have managed to continue most of our projects during the last 5 years, which were very difficult.

Dear friends of the project "Send a child to School" Just one hour ago I received the message that our project has succeeded in getting #all the funds !! A real succes and (still) a wonderfull Sinterklaas present. ! We from the board of Stichting Vajra and also our counterpart in Nepal are very grateful that so many people have contributed to the education of Sabina and Nirasa for the next 5 years They are doing very well and so is our school the Vajra academy in Kathmandu. Also a lot of thanks to the people of Pif world. They have supported us a lot. We like to go on with a new project and also will keep you informed about the progress of our two girls ! Edzo

Dear Players, there has been quite some movement since the last update. First of all a warm welcome to Roelfina and Ritsaart and thanks for your generous donations! We’re also very excited that Corporate Rentals decided to make a Christmas donation to this project, thanks to all of you! In Lalitpur all is well. In the video, meet the two girls Nirasa (9) and Sabina (5) we are sponsoring trough Pifworld. They are at Vajra Academy since September 2009 and have adapted very quick. Both girls are doing very well and they like the school a lot. Their school results are also very good. In this video Nirasa introduces herself to you.

These two girls are from two very poor families living in the Himalya. Their schoolteacher has selected them to go to the Vajra Academy, so they will get the chance to be educated . Our Pifworld project supports them for the coming 4 years.

The Vajra Academy is situated about 15 km south of Kathmandu in a quiet and fresh surrounding. Central Kathmandu is very polluted As you see we have a solar system on the roof. All,the food is cooked by steam from this system. We have also a bio gaz insatllation, fed by our school cows and also by the children ...

Recently I have visited the Vajra Academy again. I was impressed by the school, the surrounding, the children and the teachers. There are about 200 children now. Some are sponsored, others come from the villages around. The method of education is quite different from the usually rather strict education method that is normal in Nepal. In the Vajra Academy there is a lot of attention for the well being of the children. A lot of playing, making music and drawing. Also, the attention for the environment is essential, because it is a green school. Nearly all the cooking is done by steam from suncollectors and gaz from a biogaz installation. The Vajra academy is a child and environmentally friendly school. It is partly a boarding school , some children come from very far and cannot go home evrey day. Some children live nearby and can walk. If they live too fat to walk, the school collects them in the morning and bring them home in the evening.
