For the past years we have been active in the local prison to give guidance and support to minors. A small clinic has been equipped with the essential materials and equipment so inmates can receive basic treatment when ill. We also realised a library, a badminton field and we give counselling to the children. We want to be able to further equip the clinic, as well as to enlarge the collection of books in the library. Trainings will be held for the guards, often young adults without higher education or special knowledge about children and their rights. Trainings will consist of basic knowledge about Children’s Rights and will increase awareness and provide alternatives for the guards to use when interacting with the children.
All states are having difficulties in implementing the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child with respect to minors in conflict with the law, and many are having extreme difficulties. Indonesia is one of these countries. In contrary to the international precepts, children in conflict with the law are often treated as adults. They are not protected from the harmful effects of criminal justice. In many prisons and institutions, children and young persons are often denied virtually every right to medical care, education and individual development. Therefore they are a great matter of concern.
Achieving the fulfilment of Children’s Rights in the local penitential institution on Batam Island Indonesia, as well as identifying, repatriating and reintegrating about 100 victims of child-trafficking.

The only risk involved in this project would be losing the trust we have with prison officials, perhaps by sending off the wrong message with the video updates. Therefore we made sure the officials agree with the material that is shown through Pifworld.

With this new facility for medical care, the children and adults in prison could recieve the care they need. The project is running well, we stiil need extra donations to fullfill our goal: Rights for prisonners in Indonesia.
