They cook for others but are deprived of food
New Delhi, Aug 12: Six children have been rescued from Burari area on the outskirts of National Capital by city police and labour department on a complaint filed by Bachpan Bachao Andolan. All the children, aged between 12 yrs and 18 yrs, were rescued from two sweet shops and two food vendors in the area. When rescued, the children were scantily dressed. They told the rescuers that they were paid a meager amount of Rs 40 - Rs 50 per week and minimal food to eat.
12 year old Faizullah said, “I was enrolled in my school in Bihar. Chacha (uncle) told my parents that I will be enrolled in school for better education. Once here, I was forced to work at this road side dhaba (eatery). I was working for more than 16 hours a day without any salary. I am not good in cooking but still I was forced to work, I have bruised my fingers and burnt my hand while cooking and cutting vegetables. I want to go back home and join my school.”
Three of the employers were arrested - Dayaram, Lakshmi Rawat and Ramesh Chauhan. One of the vendors could not be arrested as he managed to escape.

This is a serious subject. It really should be investigated and make headline news, so that many people in the world can help do something about it. There would be an uprising/instant revolution if this were to happen in my hometown. m

Dit is een belangrijk project om kinderen een zelfstandig leven op te kunnen laten bouwen en kind te laten zijn. Alleen het fotootje bij het project komt volgens mij uit Afrika ;)
Units making toys for export exposed of using child labour
Acting on a report in a London-based newspaper about children being forced to work at toys and gifts manufacturing factory here, Bachan Bachao Andolan swung into action and filed a complaint and their after rescued four children from Sakur ki Dandi area in Central Delhi. This is for the first time that child labour has been exposed in making of shellac ornaments and gift items for exports. All the children were victims of child trafficking. The children, aged between 8 years and 10 years, were forced to work for at least 14 hours per day.
President of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Mr Ramesh Gupta, said: “This incidence has once again exposed the laxity of multinational companies in working with their supply chains for elimination of child labour and trafficking. Multi national brands somehow after placing the order feel no liability. This apathy translates at every layer in supply chain. A concerted effort is required by the companies at all levels to work with supply chains on capacity building, on decent work conditions as defined by ILO and see to it that there is no more forced labour or child labour.”

BBA is doing a great job. Let's help them keep up the good work and let children be children again, not labourers!
38 Child Labourers Rescued in Central Delhi!
Thirty eight child labourers were rescued from Nabi Karim area in Central Delhi on Saturday morning by the activists of Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) and the city police. All the rescued children, aged between 10 years and 14 years, were working as child laborers at various leather bag manufacturing units and eateries in the area.
According to a thirteen-year-old rescued boy, who was working at one of the manufacturing units, the children were forced to work in the most inhuman conditions and after the days works they were locked in a small room. They were not given anything to eat on Sundays and some of the children had been starved for over two days.
Mr. R. S. Chaurasia, Chairperson, BBA, said, "These kids were not even in proper clothing when we conducted the raid. Most of them were brought here on the promise of better facilities than what they were provided back home. Nine persons have been arrested from the spot and will be charged under the juvenile justice Act, bonded labour Act and child labor Act.''

Devli, a hero to us all!
Check out this video on Devli and show your support on Pifworld!
Devli, an 11-year old girl from India, addresses the UN
Devli was born as a child slave in a stone quarry. Luckily she was saved from the mine by an organisation fighting against child labour, supported by KidsRights. Now Devli and her family have a house and have their freedom back. Devli is learning in school and can now read the numbers on the bus and all the other things that make a kid less vulnerable in life.
Recently Devli was asked by the United Nations to speak to the General Assembly about child labour and education. She was very nervous but did a great job. In my village, I went around from family to family, and helped enrol 15 children into school. If I as a girl could enrol 15 children; wouldnt all of you as world leaders be able to enrol all children into schools?, she asked to the world leaders who were listening to her. After the meetings, the world leaders got together and made 4.5 billion dollars available for education to 15 million children all over the world. Singers Bono and Bob Geldof were present for the event and said that they would keep reminding the leaders of their promises to worlds children wherever they travelled and performed.
