Rescue girls by car

Problem statement

Once a girl has been sold to the brothels and has worked there, society gives them the cold shoulder. Their parents are ashamed of them, they have become a disgrace to the family.“The reintegration of the girls into society is an extreme challenge. They are given a negative label, they are behind in their education, and they have psychological and emotional problems,” says Triveni.

Goal

Triveni Acharya lives in India. She rescues between 300 and 400 girls from trafficking each year, with her organisation Rescue Foundation and the help of the local police. Every year, between 5000 and 7000 Nepalese girls are sold in brothels in the Indian red light district. They are shut up for days, starved, beaten, burnt with lit cigarettes and raped, untill they are completely weakened. They are forced to provide sexual services to more than 25 clients per day. To free girls from the brothels, Triveni needs an armoured vehicle. This will allow the girls to be brought back safely to the refuge.

Main activities

The car will be used to transport the girls after a rescue. It often happens that Triveni and her team are being shot at during a rescue operation.

External risks

The car can be shot at, demolished or destroyed. An armored car is very strong however, so we expect that it will last for a long time.
