(S)Cool on wheels is developed to get children (both with and without a disability), acquainted and familiar with the theme: 'live and sport with a disability.' Apart from that, (S)Cool on wheels stimulates children with a disability to practice sports.
Sports activity for disabled people does not have an equal societal position as regular sports activities. Disabled people have to deal with lots of difficulties to practice sports. For instance transport, material and acceptance are obstacles. By stimulating and financing education project (S)Cool on wheels, Fonds Gehandicaptensport tries to improve the social position of disabled people.
With this project on Pifworld we can organise three (S)Cool on wheels workshops of one day each, at different secondary schools in the Netherlands.
Every (S)Cool on Wheels project is an active, dynamic workshop that takes place during a school day. During this day school children will learn and experience themselves what it means to live and sport with a disability. The workshop is given by an expert in practising sports with a disability. The project (S)Cool on wheels improves the knowledge of (im)possibilities of disabled children. Children in secondary school get educated about playing sports and disability by disabled sportsmen. Playing sports makes disabled children feel more independent as an individual and gives them the opportunity to employ themselves. In the practical part of the workshop children experience what it is to be in a wheel chair. They will play some simple agility games and learn some skills. At the end, an exiting game of wheelchair basketball or - field hockey is played.
Gehandicaptensport Nederland has a general policy on risk reduction. As for specific project risks: the workshop is designed in such a way, that children are not overwhelmed by information. The theoretical and practical part of the workshop have been thought through, so it will be a learning experience that does not contain shocking effects in any kind of way.
Fonds Gehandicaptensport and the projectteam scool on wheels say thank you to all players who make a contribution to this project. Together we support 3 projects which give at least 100 children the possibility to learn more about how to deal with a dissibility. Great Job!
With his project on Pifworld we can offer children in secondary school three workshop to learn more about how to cope with a disability.
