About

For the past years we have been active in the local prison to give guidance and support to minors. A small clinic has been equipped with the essential materials and equipment so inmates can receive basic treatment when ill. We also realised a library, a badminton field and we give counselling to the children. We want to be able to further equip the clinic, as well as to enlarge the collection of books in the library. Trainings will be held for the guards, often young adults without higher education or special knowledge about children and their rights. Trainings will consist of basic knowledge about Children’s Rights and will increase awareness and provide alternatives for the guards to use when interacting with the children.

With the donations and financial support of NCDO, Impulsis and hundreds of friends of the Anak Asuh Foundation the total target of Euro 77.510,-- has been reached and the project is fullly financed. Anak Asuh already strated the project last year with training about human rights and building the facilities fort sports, library, medical support and vocational training.

Problem statement

All states are having difficulties in implementing the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child with respect to minors in conflict with the law, and many are having extreme difficulties. Indonesia is one of these countries. In contrary to the international precepts, children in conflict with the law are often treated as adults. They are not protected from the harmful effects of criminal justice. In many prisons and institutions, children and young persons are often denied virtually every right to medical care, education and individual development. Therefore they are a great matter of concern.

Goal

Achieving the fulfilment of Children’s Rights in the local penitential institution on Batam Island Indonesia, as well as identifying, repatriating and reintegrating about 100 victims of child-trafficking.

Main activities

1) Training in prison of minors and young adults in the prison; 2) Enlarging the book collection of the library in prison; 3) Further equip the clinic; 4) Guidance for minors in prison; 5) Recreational activities for the children; 6) Increasing awareness and knowledge about Children’s Right by giving workshops for the guards; and 7) Identification, repatriation and reintegration of about 100 victims of child-trafficking.

External risks

The only risk involved in this project would be losing the trust we have with prison officials, perhaps by sending off the wrong message with the video updates. Therefore we made sure the officials agree with the material that is shown through Pifworld.

There comes a time When we head a certain call When the world must come together as one There are people dying And it's time to lend a hand to life The greatest gift of all We can't go on Pretneding day by day That someone, somewhere will soon make a change We are all a part of God's great big family And the truth, you know love is all we need Send them your heart So they'll know that someone cares And their lives will be stronger and free As God has shown us by turning stone to bread So we all must lend a helping hand When you're down and out There seems no hope at all But if you just believe There's no way we can fall Well, well, well, well, let us realize That a change will only come When we stand together as one We are the world We are the children We are the ones who make a brighter day So let's start giving There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives It's true we'll make a better day Just you and me

Let's go against Ebola! Although the time that I thought Micheal Jackson was pretty cool is two decades ago, I must admit that he isn't so Bad at all. He didn't frighten me with his Triller album, the real frightning stuff came later on, as we all know. But it is exactly the period between the mentioned albums that he hit the charts with 'Heal the world, '. This was 100% corny stuff, but the message was clear: make it a better place! So, tho come back on this motivation issue, let's follow this Wizzard of Oss and make the world a better place. With Pifworld it is so easy! Good luck with Playing it Forward!
